impeccable vibes. loved every minute of this

this game is lovely im obsessed with jam the serial arsonist

(1 edit)

I got 10 endings, clearly I'm missing one piece of evidence. Any walkthroughs available?

Looks like there's some hidden puzzle I can't find. Something with the fire extinguisher? Something with the burning cake? Something with the flaming pentagram? Seems I've tried everything...

Did you try the clown painting in the bedroom?

how do I install / play this on Ubuntu ?

You have to launch the JatMotMSM.sh script under Linux

Very cute and fun! And horrifying! lol

(+2)

I would love to see another game with Jam and Alexandre! 4/5

(+2)

I enjoyed the game so much, that I included it in a new Hidden Gems Youtube Series:

Thanks for making a fun game <3

i dont remember if i commented before but i am just as utterly enamored with this game as when i first played it <3 <3 i love jam and alexandre so much

Delightful quick comedy game with some great gags.

(1 edit) (+1)

Short adventure game with different endings and a few secrets to figure out along the way. Its interesting how the game abstracts the usual point and click adventure structure and whodunnit expectations. Well done, funny and it had me hooked to figure out what actually happened here. Only the music was a bit grating, but you can turn that off thankfully. 3,5/5

Interesting game.

I liked the art and the ui. Collecting things was nice and using stuff was alright.

The writing was ok and was humorous. I felt that there was a little bit too much of the main character saying their own name and saying how they are between the ages of 4 and 17 in a lot of the dialogue in the game. Is Jam full of herself?

Not sure why I couldn’t light the string that was holding the key because Jam was afraid that the house could burn down, but it was ok that I put the painting in the back on fire and the stove??? Doesn’t make sense but I guess it doesn’t have to because it’s supposed to be funny.

I know that there are many endings. I liked the one with the gnome. I still have yet to try a lot of the other combinations but from what I’ve tried, they are alright. Everything is alright.

Very nice game. Really humorous. The art was simple but adequate for storytelling and quite understandable. I liked the plot twist in the fire extinguisher (and what Jam becomes after the fire; won't write because spoilers - I guess that's the secret ending?). It was really well crafted that every object combination has it's own "ending plot" and they were often pretty hilalrious as well (the "regenerating mandible" was a favourite, though the "I am the murderer" had me "wut" for a moment).

I had to change font to ease some eye strain, but it was easy enough. The criticism is more that you can't click on the descriptions too such as "go to the map", it could be made a "clickable link". Another criticism: There is no sequel when there totally should be ;) - Also [SPOILER], I figure Jam could get sort of adopted by the guy and his wife because of the no guardian thing. Poor girl :V

I played this through the Racial Equality Bundle and was one of the first I played. It was a flipping blast! I loved it! And now I want an entire series about Jam.

(+2)

This is the funniest game I've played and an absolute new favourite! The writing is incredible and the characters are charming. There are so many different endings which was fantastic to discover. Additionally the mild horror works really well with the comedy. The game is knowledgeable about the genres its playing with and works with them creatively. I am really looking forward to see what the creator will make in the future!

(+1)

This game was so cute  and I really enjoyed the layout and idea of it! i do want to know what happened with the cake though...

(+2)

honest-to-god one of the best things i've ever had the luck of stumbling across on itch. very cute and funny. i loved the (assumedly) nonbinary protag, i don't see a lot of protags like me. i'm still curious what actually did happen in the house anyway, but i'm ok with there being unanswered questions. all in all, a standout title. wish you the best with any potential future projects! <3

(+3)

I got this game some time ago, and every so often it wanders back into my mind. It's honestly super charming, and I love the format (really shows how far you can go with Ren'Py with the right know-how). I would love to see these characters return in a future project!

(1 edit) (+2)

hilarious, charming, great way to spend an hour or so. I wish there was a bit more of a climax (maybe if that one ending was only accessible after completing the others?) but I like that the game's exactly what it is. jam is a fun character and so's their rapport with badmann; it's easy to imagine their previous run-ins.

great game!

(+1)

Very appreciated this little detective journey .  Different from other small story i play - read

(+3)

10/10. i wish there were a way to keep track of the endings you've gotten, but that's my only gripe--it's really great, and also Amazingly Funny.

(+1)

delightful short game!

(1 edit) (+2)

One of my favorites from the Racial Justice Bundle! Art style and writing reminded me of KC Green's work, which is a very good thing to be reminded of.

(+2)

Its bomb as hell. 100% worth it. YES YES YES. okay peace

The game creashed a few times for me, here are the logs. Eventually I managed to complete it saving constantly:

What were you doing when you got those crashes?

I got similar crashes whenever I tried to use the candle, pistol, or meterstick on the key dangling from the ceiling. The number after jamp_ and _return.req was different for different items, though.

(2 edits)

Upon further investigation, the gun is 1, the meterstick is 2, and the candle is 3.

The metric book just gets a generic "I don't think this is gonna work" message, which means it must be Stuff #6! After using my Jam-like deductive reasoning, I realized that the key would be Stuff #4 and the thing inside the locked box Stuff #5, solution to the hidden puzzle wherein you find half a harpoon, which five of the endings are locked behind!

Jokes aside, a third of the game's endings are locked behind that key, and I want to enjoy them all. So I'll be tinkering with the code to find a fix. (Assuming that Ren'Py games ship with the source code, I mean.) I'll let you know if I find a fix.

EDIT: Wait, I replied that to myself. Okay, I'll let <i>the guy above you</i> know if I find a fix.

That error's had me stumped for a while as well—I've never encountered it before, and haven't been successful in my attempts to replicate it either, so any info is useful in figuring it out.

In the code, the "jamp_1"-and-so-on strings are set when you click on an item from Stuff after being prompted. These strings take the name of the label you were in when you triggered the stuff prompt, and then append ".req1" (and so on). In your case (the key on the string), the jamps should have been set as "check_parlor_1.req_1", and so on.

When working correctly, the jamps are then used to route the game to the correct outcome of your Stuff selection. They're not used at all if there's no unique dialogue for the selected Stuff, and each Stuff prompt has unique dialogue for only 3 of the 6 Stuffs, which would be why How 2 Metric doesn't cause the error. If you were interacting with, for example, the mirror in the bathroom, then 1, 2, and 3 would correspond to the mask, book, and gun, and the other three Stuffs would give you the generic message.

If the jamps were set with "_return" instead of "check_parlor_1", it means that the system that registers the current label encountered a bug somewhere. Unfortunately, that's as far as I've gotten—I suspect it has something to do with internal labels that Ren'py uses, but I'm not certain.

At present, my first suggestion would be to go to the bathroom, use the gun on the mirror, and then attempt to get the key again. If the problem persists, that would mean there's something wrong with that particular Stuff prompt, which would narrow it down considerably.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience! Please let me know if you continue encountering this error.

Alright then. GreatWyrmGold, the world's greatest not-a-kid detective between the ages of 14 and 27 in the western half of my county, is on the case! Besides, I like having an excuse to get back into this game with its delightful sense of humor.

Test #1: Go straight from the introduction to the bedroom to get the gun, then pose with the gun in the bathroom, then...shoot the key down or something?

Result: Same crash.

Test #2: Reload save, grab the candle, pose with the gun, burn the string.

Result: "The air around this candle is hot, and according to physics, hot air rises..." No key, but I did see Jam consider the potential arson her plan could cause, which is nice. Especially since I've seen ending 16.

Test #3: Save, then try the gun just in case getting it to work makes them all work.

Result: It did! Cool.

Test #4: Save, reload other save to get meterstick.

Result: Didn't even have to re-pose before it worked. Weird, but probably useful. And definitely convenient.

Thank you for the aid in bug-testing! Your sleuthing is extremely helpful, and definitely indicates that the issue is in the label-saving code, rather than that specific interaction. Once I work out what exactly is causing the error, I'll be sure to issue a patch. Until then, please let me know if you run into any other issues, and I'll do my best to resolve them!

Thank you for making this game. It reminded me of the games I loved to play as a kid!

(+1)

Got this as part of the Racial Justice Bundle, and I loved it. It was incredibly funny and clever, making me laugh out loud multiple times. Even if you get it on its own rather than as part of a bundle, it'd be absolutely worth even more than the listed price.

(+2)

dude i literally LOVED this game so so much, it's one of my favorites i've found in the bundle so far. jam and alexandre are both so funny, i will kiss them on tha cheek. the [spoilers] demon in the lounge is actually so fuckin creepy. 10/10, i love this game, thank u so much for making it,

(+1)

The game was super enjoyable! it's probably one of the funniest mystery games I've played in a while, and the characters were genuinely likable and entertaining.

(+1)

so fun! a perfect mix of goofy humor and some creepy images (I legit jumped when I first entered the lounge). A wonderfully short game that was filled with SO much character and great dialogue!

(+1)

Loved it!

(+1)

an utter delight

(+2)

Good Game :D

(+5)

this game was the funniest game i have ever played and i am so, so enamored with these characters i love jam and badmann and augh! so good. i wish there was more stuff with them in it , granted i havent looked but god this game will be on my mind for the better part of 2 months at least, i got all the endings though i wasnt paying attention to what i was doing when i got the gnome so i dont really know how to re-create it, and i put them all in order of number on a notes file in my phone if i ever want to go back to the hilarity that is this games different storylines jam makes up with their deduction and alexandre's bemusement/horror. p.s. jam is obviously non binary right? they dont have pronouns and ive never met a binary person who would have the name jam.  either way i support this little greatest child detective of the ages of 4-17 on the west side on linn county. (i live in a county with a similar name which is also cool). p.p.s. the demon was very disturbing when i first saw it so bravo on that design

(+4)

Made me smile. Thank you!

(+2)

this was hilarious, the jawbone money ending especially

(+5)

i can and will die for palexandre

(+2)

This was super cute and fun and funny, and Jam is the best character, I want to be them when I grow up

(+2)

I seriously love this game! It's hilarious AND all the creepy stuff is pretty great

(+4)

This was so fun and charming!!! It was the perfect short game for me! It was so funny, I was in LOVE with the writing!! The creepy horrors underneath the humor and dialogue was so choice.  Jam is such a lovable character and so was Alex! I wish there was a way to see which endings you already gotten but they were all very funny!!

I'm going to bully my friends to play this game, specifically for Jam, the world's greatest kid detective between the ages of 4 and 17 in the western half of Linn County!

i bought a bundle and it wont let me download more than those 5 games and theyll probably break. i cant believe i got ripped off by you dweebs at itch.io again.  this always lets me down they said i had access to 1600 games for 5 dollars and my friend DW lied to me

(2 edits) (+3)

I haven't had any issue with the bundle myself, besides maybe download speeds, do remember you can only download things via the 'download' button on the bundle list, for whatever reason, if you open the game info page, it doesn't show as 'owned', which is a very weird... decision for the website, and admitedly confusing.

What I mean is, games won't even appear on the 'library' proper just on the 'bundle' section, until you check the download pages of each one, that I can get, not spamming the library, but... not showing them as owned if you check the page, and be forced to open library/bundle/etc each time to double check? that is kinda odd.

Third edit, I heard the website might be having traffic issues as well, due to volume of people, keep tht in mind. but I for sure checked more than 5 games without a trouble

(+2)

Yes, this is how it works. There are 1700 games in the bundle so it's not going to just dump them into your library. Solution: keep multiple tabs open like everyone else and just refresh stuff.

I could add any number of games to the library by just going to the bundle list page and opening the pages for those games in new tabs. I wouldn't recommend doing that for all of them at once, both because that would be a lot of tab-opening (and presumably -closing) and because your library would be unusably cluttered.
